Overview
With mesmerizing summit views of Kedar, Chaukhamba, and the Himalayas, the Chandrashila trek, at an altitude of 12,083 ft. is one of the most suitable treks for beginners. A visit to the holy Tugnath temple, famous for being the highest Shiva temple in the world offers you a vantage point in the trek. The journey to the trek takes you through Rishikesh, Sari, and Chopta, and the way is surrounded by vivacious patches of pine, oaks, and rhododendron. When here you can also indulge in bird-watching activities and lakeside picnics. Do not miss watching, the golden-breasted eagles that are a mesmerizing sight from the summit.
Best Time to Visit: Chopta Tungnath Trek is Beautiful and Pleasant for whole Year. Best time of year include December to April, Expect trekking on the snow in the mid of December. During winters, Bali pass covered in the thick blanket of snow best for skiers.
Itinerary
Day 01: Rishkesh to Deoriatal then chopta| Drive Distance: 205 kms | Duration: 5-6 hours | Elevation: 2608m
Reach Rishikesh in the morning Reporting time at Nepali Farm Circle/ Natraj Chowk is 07:00 AM. Drive to Sari Village at 12PM and start Deoriatal Trek for 2KM which takes around 3-4 Hrs. Upon arrival at Chopta base camp at 5PM, get served with hot tea and snacks followed by a lip-smacking dinner Overnight stay in camps surrounded by dwarfed hills and vast valleys with numerous glittering hamlets scattered till far among them
Day 02: Chopta Base Camp to Tungnath and Chandrashila Summit | Trek Distance: 6.5 kms | Duration: 3 – 4 hours
Good Morning wake up at Chopta Base Camp After a hot breakfast, the trek from Chopta to Tungnath begins at 8AM. The trek is about 5 km long and is an ascent to a heavenly place! Upon reaching Tungnath, you can explore the famous Tungnath temple, known to be at least 1000 years old. It is a highlight event of the entire journey, as the temple itself attracts a lot of tourists, on a religious pilgrimage. The day is not over yet, as you trek(1.5KM) on to the Chandrashila peak, located at a height of more than 12,110 ft. This is one of the most important elements of the journey as well. The fantastic Himalayan birds, the awe-inspiring vista of the Garhwal, the gigantic pine, maple and oak trees in the surrounding areas and of course, the deep, pervasive silence of the mountains is enough to take your breath away. After spending some time on the summit, you start the descent back to Chopta, where you will be camping again for the night..
Day 03: Chopta Base Camp to Rishikesh | Drive Distance: 205 kms | Duration: 5-6 hours
8:30 AM – Start the day at the break of dawn with a steaming breakfast! After Breakfast you will be driving down to Rishikesh at around 2PM Chopta Chandrashila tungnath Trek ends here.
